“I see Chamonix as a central axis reaching out for discovery in all directions. Its altitude and isolation make it an island, both within Europe and the Alps.

What sets this valley apart is its history; two centuries ago the mountains were seen as cursed and then adventurous mountaineers discovered that they were idyllic, rather than cursed. The idea today is to preserve this history and project it into the future. There are many resources available, including sand and wood, and we need to use local materials in our work. I sincerely believe that we have to change our practices.

At our agency, we have been building high energy performance, self-sustaining Chamoniard houses for 15 years, in addition to using local resources. This is meeting a demand -  everyone in the valley is interested in the environment.  ”

“Behind the station in Vallorcine, you’ll find the Café Comptoir, a little restaurant with a great family atmosphere. The people are really nice and it’s in a lovely setting.”
